Description
Letrasan is used to treat hormonally responsive breast cancer, after surgery, in postmenstrual women. This drug has also been used for ovarian simulation and also to promote spermatogenesis in males. Some athletes who use steroids take Letrasan as its anti-estrogen property reduces water retention and prevents bloating. It is also known to prevent certain side effects of anabolic steroids.
Letrasan is an oral medication which should normally be taken once a day. A regular routine should be mentioned and as far as possible the tablet should be taken at the same time everyday. But it is always better to follow the advice of your doctor when using Letrasan as some doctors prescribe a dose of a tablet every alternate day for people suffering from liver problems.
It is advisable not to miss a dose of Letrasan, but if you do miss a schedule then try to make it up as soon as you can but do not take an extra tablet if your next dose is due in a short time. Taking an overdose of any drug is harmful. In case of an overdose of Letrasan contact your doctor immediately.
Letrasan is indicated for post-menopausal women so before starting your Letrasan treatment, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or may be pregnant prior to starting this treatment as Letrasan may harm the fetus. Do not breast feed while taking Letrasan as it might harm the baby. Letrasan might cause little nausea for which you can take anti-nausea medications but only under medical supervision and make sure that your meals are small and frequent.
Do not drive immediately after taking Letrasan. Get plenty of rest and eat healthy and nutritious food. Your doctor should be monitoring you regularly while you are using Letrasan especially testing your bone density and cholesterol levels. Letrasan is a specific drug for treating breast cancer in postmenopausal women so avoid using it before menopause. Children should never use this drug and utmost care should be taken while administering it to elderly people.
The common side effects that you may experience while using Letrasan are headache, cough, diarrhea, indigestion, dizziness, pain in the limbs, back or breast, muscle pains, joint pains, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, excessive sweating, hot flashes, loss of appetite, swelling of joints, loss or gain in weight, weakness, vaginal irritation or dryness, tiredness and sleeplessness.
More serious effects include sudden and severe headaches, confusion, vision and speech problems, fainting, breathlessness, severe allergic reactions like hives, itching, swelling of the facial area, tight feeling of the chest, numbness, especially on one side of the body or the arms and legs, pain during urination, vaginal bleeding or discharge, severe body ache, unusual hoarseness and high fever. Immediate medical attention should be sought in case you experience any of the more severe side effects.
